ALVIN S. SIMPLETON SAYS WRONG, WRONG

Man, it’s all over blogosphere and the newspapers and magazines done picked up the news that the cops arrested the prominent Black Harvard scholar, Professor Henry Louis Gates, Jr., at his house.

Now was it racial profiling? No, no, no.

Let’s take a look at the circumstances. The police officer came to Professor Gates house because of a call from a neighbor reporting some Black men were breaking into the house. So, the officer didn’t know when they arrived that Professor Gates and his driver had been trying to open a front door that was stuck. He did not come to the house because Professor Gates is Black; he came to investigate a reported break-in.

Man, it seems that the Professor jumped sassy from the get-go, accusing the officer of racial profiling. Did he ever once ask why the officer was at his house? I grant the Professor may have been tired from his long trip, but that is no excuse for his conduct.

Unfortunately, the officer’s reaction to the Professor’s harassing didnt help matters. He shoulda just walked away. Instead he lost his cool and things just go worse.

I wish I could say I think it’s over, but you and I know some of my Black brothers gon milking until the cow hollers.

Anyway, my fellow brothers and sisters, if you think it was racial profiling, you wrong, wrong as two left feet.

The Professor came out ahead cause he got him some material for his next PBS documentary.

ALVIN S. SIMPLETON SAYS WHY ARE WE IN AFGHANISTAN

I once axed this question of President Bush bout Iraq. Now, I ax President Obama, who done proclaimed the war in Afghanistan to be a necessary war. Why the hell are we there? I mean please define victory for me.

I think we want to prevent al-Qaida from settin up them trainin camps in Afghanistan. to do that we got to do the impossible, we got to beat the Taliban. Man, aint no nation ever beat any of them bad dudes in that country, dont make no difference ifn they Taliban or warlords or whatever. how come we think we can do it?

We aint very good at bringing democracy to countries like Afghanistan cause we dont study they history. No, Iraq aint no democracy and aint never gon be one cause soon or later a strong man will rise up and put down everybody else cause that the way it always been.

Afghanistan, well, some warlord will take over part of the country while the Taliban take over the rest. How we gon beat the Taliban in they own country? We gon ax them to surrender unconditionally? We gon run them outa Afghanistan? they aint goin no where. we the ones a long way from home, baby.

I say let them Taliban have the country but tell’em ifn they let al-Qaida set up camps, we’ll be back.

ALVIN S. SIMPLETON SAYS IT’S A SHAME

I dont agree that college athletes should be paid. Hey, they’re student-athletes. But, man, give them a little money to go to the movies.

Paying student athletes is not what got the philosopher of common sense upset. No, sir. What got me upset is I read in the July 15 New York Times that some colleges and universities don’t have insurance and don’t pay the bill when an athlete is injured. Man, that poor kid and his parents are sometimes left with a big doctor’s bill.

That just aint right. If the athlete is injured while performing on the field or on the court, it seems to me the college (do colleges still exist?) or university oughta pay the doctor bill. Hey, I betcha if he or she is a star athlete, the college or university pays the bill, not out of generosity or cause it’s the right thing to do, but cause they want the athlete back on the field or court.

Course not all college and universities refuse to pay an athlete’s doctor bills. Them big schools do but woe to the athlete in them small schools.

Ifn my grandson wins an athletic scholarship, one of the things I plan to ask is do the school what he gon attend have medical insurance?

Them athletes what gon play professionally probably don’t have to worry, but that other 98%, now that got a problem if they injured.

It’s just a damn shame.

ALVIN S. SIMPLETON SAYS WE AINT THE WORLD POLICE

How’s come some folks wants the U S of A to be the police of the world? Your philosopher of common sense dont have no common sense bout this problem.

Folks right here in the U S of A wants Obama to stop the violence in Sudan and Somali. Well, U S of A did send the Somali government some guns and stuff to help fight them militants but them militants gon do like they always do, out fight and out gun the government.

Take this here nuclear weapons business. I mean Iran gon get them some nuclear bombs no matter what, unless of course Israel blows up the bomb making factories. Imagine what gon happen if they do. Man, Iran aint gon take that crap lying down, no sir, they gon go after Israel. And how come Russia aint worried bout Iran gettin some nuclear stuff, or ifn they are, they show don’t act  like it. Sanctions, come on, when did sanctions work? And what bout them countries around Iran like Saudi Arabia?

Another thing, how come the Chinese dont make some real man noise bout them mad men in North Korea having missiles and bombs. Hell, ifn they start a war, China gon be in the middle of it.

I got to say somethin bout peace between them Palestinians and Israelis. The US of A can’t make no peace deal. The only folks can do that is them Palestinians and the Israelis.

Well, they say the US of A messed up the world economy and now we gots to fix it. Man, I’m damn tired of being blamed for everything that goes wrong in this crazy world.

Somebody please give the US of A some love.

ALVIN S. SIMPLETON SAYS THE DECISION WAS WRONG

No matter how much folks deny it, common sense tells me reverse discrimination, you know, when a Black person is given a promotion or whatever, over a White person with better test scores, does happen. Hey, in some cases it’s necessary cause we Black folks been shut out for some long, the only way to integrate is choose a Black person or a woman over a White man.

Now don’t git me wrong. It aint necessarily so in all cases, you know what I’m saying. You know where I’m goin with this.

Yep, right down to that case of them White firefighters in New Haven, Connecticut what was denied promotion cause the city threw out the test cause no Black firefighters made a high nough score to be promoted.

Look here, I grew up attendin segregated schools, alright. Where I grew up, all the Black students in the city and county went to one high school. Man, none of us today would even think bout we can’t pass no test cause it culturally biased against us. We know, cause we was taught, we couldn’t just be the best, no siree, we had to be better than the best cause the White folks was not gon give us a break, no way, no how.

I agree with the majority of the U. S. Supreme Court. I mean how could the test be flawed against the Black firefighters if it was job related. I mean, come on, wasn’t they supposed to know the job, and didn’t they receive the same training as the White firefighters? Some of’em passed the test but didn’t make a high nough score for promotion. And that’s the fault of the test? Hey git real.

My common sense advice: go back and study until you can pass any test with your eyes closed. Course, they got to be open to read the test.

My common sense asks how can a test that is bout the job a man is already doin be biased?
