ALVIN S. SIMPLETON SAYS SARAH HAS GOOD PARENTING SKILLS

Sarah Palin is a woman to be admired. How do I know this? How else explain her many fans, mostly female? And every word she writes or says is parsed by the lamestream news media. So, she must being saying something important, right?

What I’m certain about is her parenting skills. She, based on the actions of two of her daughters, has some good parenting skills.

Bristol Plain became pregnant before graduating from high school, and now can make money lecturing other teenage girls about getting pregnant and being a single mom. Just how good of an example is she? She didn’t win the “Dancing With the Stars” trophy. According to the news outlets, she said something to the effect that she was hoping she would win so she could give the middle finger to all those folks who dissed her mom. She is a good example of how to act when you lose.

Then there is the 16-year-old daughter who called somebody a “fag” on Facebook, and as if that wasn’t enough, some really nasty stuff came out of her nasty mouth. Somebody had dissed the Palin reality show about Alaska.

Like their mother, the Palin girls can’t let anyone get away with dissing the Palin family. Fight back and be as nasty as possible.

ALVIN S. SIMPLETON SEES HOPE

What the Philosopher of Commonsense wants to know is if there is any hope that religious tolerance will return to the United States any time soon? Because, man, he or she done left the country to the whacko idiotperts.

I read a story in the Huffington Post bout Texas attacking textbooks again. This time the State Board of Education, which oughta be the Board of Misinformation, claims the social study textbooks they reviewed exhibited pro-Islamic and anti-christian bias and that past social studies textbooks have also been “tainted” with pro-Islamic and anti-Christian bias.

I guess them folks in Texas want to reverse the religious intolerance shown by textbook publishers. No more pro-Islamic views. The publishers, I guess, must show pro-Christian views or more tolerance toward Christianity and less tolerance toward Islam.

Curious fact: no other bad religion is mentioned, only Islam.

But, man I aint ready to give up on America because of few idiotperts. Signs of tolerance: the pastor dude in Florida didn’t burn the Koran; a Roman Catholic Archbishop has denounced the hate and intolerance swirling around “ground zero” and the community center the Muslims are building near it. Some preachers of all faiths spoke out against pastor dude.

America is hope itself.

ALVIN S. SIMPLETON SAYS HIS 15 MINUTES IS OVER

It is Saturday morning, and I’ll be watching the news all day to see if Pastor Dude in Florida will carryout his threat to burn the Koran. He has said he will not burn the Koran, so maybe he realizes his 15 minutes of fame is over.

But man, I dont trust no publicity hound like Pastor Dude, so the Philosopher of Common Sense will be keepin a close eye on him. Okay, I know I caint do nothing bout it ifn he changes his mind and burns the Koran. But hey, I’m a real  American and I will exercise my right to speak out against intolerance.

As far as burning the Koran sparking violence gainst our troops and American citizens round the world, them mad terrorist, militants, insurgents, whatever you want to call ’em killing folks anyway, even other Muslims.

And let me leave youall with this thought: not all Muslims or followers of Islam are terrorist. Hell, most are just ordinary folks, kinda like you and me.

ALVIN S. SIMPLETON SAYS LET ARIZONA SECEDE

Those folks out in Arizona are sure jumpy these days. As we all know, they have made being an illegal immigrant in the state, well, illegal. I read in the paper yesterday that in their infinite wisdom, they have passed a new law aimed at ethnic studies. No longer may ethnic studies be taught in the public schools because such studies apparently cause Latino students to hate white folks.

Well, I don’t know whether such studies do or don’t cause Latinos to hate another ethnic groups, but I agree in part with Arizona. Such studies should be a part of American studies, showing how Latinos contributed and continue to contribute to the building of the nation and especially Arizona. I’m sure none of those who advocate dropping ethnic studies think about the fact that US history and probably the history of Arizona is taught from a European perspective. That is, that ethnic group called “white” need have no fear that studies of their group will be outlawed.

Arizona’s law seems to be just another goof ball aimed at immigrants, illegal or legal. Such laws may make good politics but poor governing. If them folks in Arizona want to secede from the union, let them. But they have to move the state some place outside of the United States, like to Mexico.

ALVIN S. SIMPLETON SAYS GET THE HELL OUT

In recent months, the Iraqis have engaged in the cornerstone of democracy, voting. Yet, they are still struggling to establish a stable, functioning government. The absence of such a government has fueled the bombings and shootings by militants that have left hundreds dead.

Because of the violence, U. S. Commanders have delayed for a month the first wave of troops scheduled to be withdrawn and are thinking of slowing the pace of the withdrawal. Of course, as usual, the US troops are supposed to help fight the violence and stabilize the country.

There is just one thing wrong with this kind of thinking. The Iraqis must provide for their own security. It doesn’t matter when the U. S. Troops leave, if the Iraqis don’t form a functioning government that can protect the citizens, the result will be violence. The country will not be stable until either a strong man arises and puts down all competition, or a strong group arises and puts down all competition.

Think about this: the Shiites are still angry at the Sunnis for what they did to them under Saddam’s rule. What they probably have on their minds is vengeance. And let’s not forget the Kurds who want autonomy for their region.

Unless we are willing to have an open end commitment, we must pull out now.

ALVIN S. SIMPLETON SAYS CITIZENS’ ALERTNESS IS A KEY TO STOPPING TERRORISTS

One of the best weapons against terrorists, homegrown or foreign, is the alertness of us citizens. We have been very lucky so far this year that citizens recognized and took action against two would-be bombers. The latest incident involving a Pakistan-American citizen also showcased the quick action of the New York police and federal authorities, despite some mistakes, in apprehending the suspect after a citizen reported to an officer that he had seen smoking coming from a parked car in Times Square.

What bothers me is why American citizens of Middle Eastern descent attack America. Both the the Army base killer and the car bomber are US citizens. Neither of them seemed to be poor and both apparently had done well as US citizens. Yet, they chose to bite the hand that fed them. I find it hard to believe it was entirely due to Islamic ideology when they could look around them and see that the radical ideology of some islamists is not true about America.

We are not perfect. We are not as some want to claim exceptional. We are still a nation trying to figure out who we are. Some want to go against some of our most cherished values in fighting terrorism. They want to take away the citizenship of anyone who is accused of an act of terrorism even before they have been convicted. Why do they want to do this? To deprive the suspect of the basic American right not to talk to authorities without a lawyer.

And let us not forget the brouhaha over torture.

The threat of terrorism, it seems, has made some us lose our minds.

ALVIN S. SIMPLETON SAYS PLEASE, MOURN FOR COMMON SENSE

As the philosopher of Common Sense, I’m always on the lookout for anything affecting it. So, I was somewhat sad when I received the following article from a friend. It would be nice if we could revive him.

An Obituary printed in the London Times – Interesting and sadly rather true.

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.

He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:

– Knowing when to come in out of the rain;
– Why the early bird gets the worm;
– Life isn’t always fair;
– and maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don’t spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge).

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims. Common Sense took a beating when you couldn’t defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement. Common Sense was preceded in death, by his parents, Truth and Trust, by his wife, Discretion, by his daughter, Responsibility, and by his son, Reason.

He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers; I Know My Rights, I Want It Now, Someone Else Is To Blame, and I’m A Victim.

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone. If you still remember him, pass this on. If not, join the majority and do nothing.
