Many folks want the lawyers who wrote the torture memos and the doctors and psychologists who devised the methods of torture to be punished for giving wrong advice to the President of the United States.
The philosopher of common sense thinks the wrong people are being blamed for the torture of “prisoners of war” held by the US government. Sure the staff people gave the advice, but consider this, would they have given the advice if they hadn’t been asked or probably told to justify what some in the Administration at the time had already decided to do? The Decider didn’t have to follow the advice. The Decider or someone close to him could have said “this is wrong.”
You are a doctor or a psychologist and are asked to come up with ways to make prisoners talk. Two choices: quit or do the job. You are told the president needs your help to defend the nation against the terrorists who might stage another attack any day now. The prisoners, you are told, may have valuable information that could prevent another attack on the US. You come up with some methods. Again, the Deciders don’t have to use the methods. But, they believe the methods will get results and haven’t their staff lawyers justified the use of torture as legal?
The blame, it seems to the philosopher of common sense, belongs with the person or persons who made the decision to torture “prisoners of war” to extract information.
Man, I tell you being Black in America is a hard job, even in the era of the first Black president. The recession done hurt us more than any other Americans. Theys more of us outa work and more done lost they homes cause of the mortgage mess them White folks started.
More racism is accepted on TV and other places what put out the news. We all know President Obama done got goo-gabs of hate mail.
Man, the Congressional Black Caucus wants the President to do something bout the mess we Blacks in. We still gettin the short end of the stick.
The problem is they aint too much the Pres can do. Let’s face Black folks, without the White folks, Obama would not have become president. Now you askin him to make a special effort to give us Black folks some special favors? Get Real. It aint gonna happen. Cause he still got to deal with the White folks. He cant do it.
So, come on, let’s give the Pres a break.
Maybe some of them programs the politicians talkin bout will help us as well as other folks in America.
I got to mention two more attacks on President Obama. Based on these attacks, some folks seem to think he’s a dangerous man.
On October 15, Yahoo News had an article on its website an opinion piece from The Nation online ‘zine. It seems some folks think President Obama is “obnoxiously articulate.” My god, an articulate president! The country is going to the dogs in a hand basket.
I first read about the second attack in my hometown news paper. Lamar Alexander is one of the senators from my state of Tennessee. I voted for the man cause I thought he’d make a good senator. But now, here he is blaming President Obama for fighting back against the lies and misrepresentations the Republicans and others have said about his administration and him personally.
Alexander claims that the Obama administration making an enemies list kinda like former president Nixon did.
It seems he and other Republicans don’t like it the Obama administration taking on it critics from the media and interest groups. I think they especially don’t like him taking on Fox News, the PR firm for the Republican Party. What they want is for him to sit down and shut up so the lies and misrepresentation can continue. Them folks don’t want no opposing views heard, especially from the man they are attacking.
Their stance is just plain un-American.
But it says one thing: President Obama just might be winning the battle of words.
The Nobel Prize committee awarded the Nobel Peace Prize to our President, Barack Obama.
While some, especially them fellows what calls themselves Republicans are mad about it, I say CONGRATULATIONS MR. PRESIDENT.
How come them Nobel fellows to give our President the prize? To quote one report for “his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.” They also noted his efforts “to pursue a world without nuclear weapons.”
Okay, I’m aware the Pres done been in office only nine months, but man he been working hard them nine months to get them world leaders to see that peace is better than war and especially nuclear war. Them Nobel fellows wanted to reward him for his tireless efforts. Who knows what he may accomplish down the road?
For once cant we put aside the rancor and be proud that the President of the United States was given the Nobel Peace Prize?
The way I see it, them Republicans want to see the President fail cause they believe it’ll help them win the next election. What I’m thinkin is they dont give a damn bout whether the country is headed for hell in a hand basket, just so they win the presidency in 2012. How come that kind of thinkin aint considered un-American?
My man President Obama can’t catch a break. No matter the man says, somebody gits pissed off. I aint talkin bout that fool from South Carolina. In the Washington Post on Saturday, Sept. 12, the President and CEO of Partnership for Public Service didn’t like the President using the work “bureaucrat” to describe government workers.
I worked for the Federal government for 32 years, and I didn’t mind being referred to as a bureaucrat. Hell, it made me proud, and I didn’t give a damn that some politicians used the word in a derogatorily. I knew that we at the Social Security Administration were competent because the beneficiaries received their checks on time every month. But I don’t think the President meant any disrespect for government workers. He was making the point that folks didn’t have to worry bout the government taking over healthcare and telling folks what they could or could not have.
Man, give they guy a break. His job is hare enough and gettin harder.
Barack Obama, President of the United States, will speak to school kids on Tuesday, September 8 about staying in school and studying hard.
I been askin my common sense self why some folks is upset and dont want they kids to listen. It seems they done decided he gon talk bout socialism and try to make they kids socialist. Mind you, they dont know what he gon talk bout since he aint showed them his speech.
What I think is it like anything else President Obama does, some folks just plain dont like the guy. Now mind you, I aint sayin it because he Black, howsoever some folks may well think that is the reason.
So, some parents plan to keep they children home if the school shows the speech on TV. It their right to say what they children should listen to, but common sense says them children will miss out on hearin the President of the United States., Sumpin they could tell they kids bout.
Disagreein with the President on his policies, such as healthcare, is as it should be. But come on, not let you children hear a speech?
Think bout this, ifn you let them hear it and then talk bout it, what you disagree with, it could make them think and become smarter.
I wish I could’ve heard a President speak to me while I was in school.
Didn’t Brett Favre retire and unretire last year? Now think bout this, he didn’t help the Jets last year, so why do the Vikings think a 39-year-old, washed up man can help them. Get real folks, Favre was once a great quarterback but now he aint even just a journeyman football player. Man, they gon pay the guy a lotta money to embarrass himself and the team. The Vikings Super Bowl contenders with Favre. Come on, that’s a joke, right?
I see in this morning’s newspaper that President Obama praised the Afghanistan for votin. Hey, aint that what President Bush did when them Iraqis voted? Votin don’t solve the problems of the people who are threaten on all sides by the Taliban and the Afghan government. And ifn the government is corrupt and the same dudes are put back in office, what the hell good will a vote do?
Common sense says let Favre stay retired. And get the US of A out of Afghanistan.
