ALVIN S. SIMPLETON SAYS THIS IS AFRICA

Human beings all over the world do crazy things, sometimes even irrational things. Take Africa for instance__

In Nigeria, you had better be very careful about what you say about a government official on Facebook. Man, there ain’t really no freedom of speech. A man ranted about the governor in January on his Facebook page, which has since be removed. For speaking his mind, he was arrested for traumatizing the governor so badly, the gov had to be hospitalized. Read about here. The dude called for Allah to curse the governor and his friends. Hey, man in Africa, you don’t put no curse on nobody cause they take their curses serious.

The BBC website reported on it website that in Malawi the government has proposed a law against farting in public. Hey, man I want that law brought to the shores of the good old US of A. one person was quoted as saying the government criminalizing the “release of intestinal gases…is a joke of democracy.”

How in hell the question of democracy has anything to do with farting is beyond me.

ALVIN S. SIMPLETON SAYS I TOLE YOUALL SHE WEREN’T FIT TO BE PRESIDENT

“Sarah Palin’s supporters and critics need to calm down. She’s a celebrity, not a future president”, is the sub-headline of an article in The Christian Science Monitor on February 3, by Walter Rodgers.

In the article, he lets all of you Dear Sarah funatics and you haters, too, that Dear Sarah is good copy, good for TV. She is, he says, “like a good movie that you don’t want to end.”

For me, a Dear Sarah watcher, I have tried without success to stop watching. She is an addiction because you wonder what she will say and do next. Rodgers is right, only I see her as a funny sitcom, and I wait anxiously for the next episode.

Of course she isn’t presidential material. No matter, the other hopefuls will treat her as if she is the front runner for the Republican nomination for 2012.

In the history of presidential elections, she will be a minor footnote.

All I can say is run, Sarah, run.

ALVIN S. SIMPLETON SAYS WE’VE HEARD THIS BEFORE

During the war in Iraq, we never read any negative reports on the progress of the war. I suppose that in wars, it is the natural reaction of the administration to report only good news—the military is always progressing in its drive to defeat the enemy.

The Obama administration is no different. In the report recently released to the public, it claims progress is being made. However, certain of the President’s words should raise red flags. He said that progress hasn’t “come fast enough,” and the report describes the progress as fragile. The timeline for withdrawing troops next summer is on track.

Some reasons why we should leave as soon as possible: The President of Afghanistan is a crook, and runs a government based on corruption.

The Afghan people do not trust government, any government.

The Taliban and al Qaeda continue to have a safe haven in Pakistan.

Most of all, we can’t do what England and Russia failed to do: make Afghanistan a western-style nation.

ALVIN S. SIMPLETON SAYS SARAH PALIN HAS AN ANTI-PALIN FAN IN RUSSIA

Sarah Plain may be able to see Russia from Alaska, but I wonder if she really wants to see it because at least one writer in Moscow doesn’t think very much of her.

I first read the story in an African American blog about a columnist in Russia who wrote an “hilarious” piece on Sarah Palin. You can read the story here.

In an article titled “Spankin’ Sarah Palin: A clown short of a circus” the columnist says what he thinks about Sarah in the first paragraph:

I have already called Sarah Palin a pith-headed bimbo from the back of beyond, in this column. I shall now go one step further. By attacking the democratically elected President of the United States of America at a sensitive time in her country’s history, she shows the tact of a boorish drunkard bawling obscenities at a funeral.

The rest of the article is just as funny, funny as the first paragraph. No one has captured our dear Sarah as has this Moscow columnist.

ALVIN S. SIMPLETON SAYS TIME FOR TEA PARTY LEGISLATORS TO GOVERN

The Tea party now has many of its followers in the Congress, which is indeed a triumph. Congratulations are in order. You fought hard and you won.

Someone said politics is the art of compromise. I say governing is the art of politics. Smart alecky sound bites aint leadership and won’t get the job of governing this nation. You have, as it were, taken back America. From whom is still not clear.

What is your agenda? In what direction do you plan to take the nation? Saying cutting spending, making the Federal government smaller, saving the tax cuts without showing how you plan to do these things aint gonna cut it.

Reality will soon smack you in the face. And you will have to prove you can lead the nation to better economic times.

The biggest problem we have is the slow economy. How do you plan to put folks back to work?

How to you plan to improve the economy?

Do you plan to waste the tax payers money (we are, after all, paying your salaries) trying to stop the Healthcare law from becoming effective? Do you truly believe that is what the voters sent you to Washington to do?

Time for you Tea Partiers to shut up and lead.

ALVIN S. SIMPLETON SAYS SARAH IS RUNNING

Sarah Palin amazes me. Not the woman herself. No, the phenomenon that is Sarah Palin amazes me. At the same time, it proves that in America anybody can run for president.

She is an obscure individual who managed to become the first female mayor of a city in Alaska and first female governor of Alaska, which indicates she seems to have political street smarts. This is amazing because, though her captured audiences think the platitudes and clever sound bites coming out of her mouth are profound, based on what I read in the mainstream press and online about her, she doesn’t seem say anything profound or significant.

After reading the article “How Sarah Barracuda Becomes President” by John Heilemann in the New York Magazine, I think she is running, not thinking about it, but actually running for President of the United States.

The real question is “is she qualified?”

Several Republican big wigs don’t think so, including her erstwhile running mate John McCain.

I have no way of judging her philosophy of governing because she avoids the mainstream press and avoids debates that would provide a clue to her philosophy of governing.

To show her true toughness and that she has the ability to govern the nation, she must engage in the rough and tumble that is politics; she must debate and answer questions from unfriendly reporters. Hiding in the Fox news studio and communicating via twitter tells me nothing about the woman who wants to be president of these United States.

Until she engages the unfriendly press, I must conclude that she has not shown she is qualified to be President of these United States.

Qualified or not, she could be the Republican nominee for U. S. President in 2012.

ALVIN S. SIMPLETON SAYS PUTTING ANYBODY IN OFFICE IS A BAD IDEA

A whole lotta folks are mad at the politicians now running the country and they just want to get rid of them. I’m talking bout folks that don’t belong to no crazy anti-government organization. No, these are right thinking folks what don’t like how things are going, such as unemployment. The mortgage mess, and few other things. They want to throw the rascals out.

But you got to be careful bout doing that, cause you may be putting in office some real nut cases. Look at what’s happening in Nevada. The good citizens of Nevada want to get rid of Harry Reid. Man, they willing to let Sharron Angle go to the Senate just to get rid of him. The woman wants to completely change the U. S. Constitution cause them liberals have some how perverted it. She ready to say “no” to anything the Obama administration wants to do. Of course, she’ll fit right in with some current republicans in congress.

How in hell did that woman in Delaware get to be a candidate for the Senate? If you think Angle is bad, man just read about Christine O’Donnell. Each day, it is another gaffe. But there is one good thing about her. She admires Hillary Clinton.
