ALVIN S. SIMPLETON SAYS IT AINT OVER IN IRAQ

In the dead of night, the strykers rolled across the Iraq border into Kuwait on the first leg of bringing home the combat troops in Iraq. To be sure, 50,000 noncombat troops remain, and we now got to foot the bill for some more undetermined years. As if that aint enough, the State Department done hired private security firms to guard diplomates and embassy personnel. Maybe there aint no more combat for out troops in Iraq, but money is still being spent on the ill-conceived military adventure that began in 2003. And I’m guessing that some more young american men and women, though supposedly in noncombat units, will die.

So, I say it aint over in Iraq.

The two wars in Iraq and Afghanistan done cost the US more than a trillion dollars, and the money spigot is still open. What bothers the philosopher of common sense is the government aint doing nothin to pay for the wars with going int further debt. I sure hopes the economonee improves soon so we common sense folks can start talkin bout leaving Afghanistan.

ALVIN S. SIMPLETON SAYS IT STILL STINGS

Well, youall, there’s another big to-do bout a nationally known personality using the “N-word.” Anybody who listens to the radio talk shows and who follows blogs know what I’m talking bout.

Relationship advice giver, Dr. Laura Schlessinger, talking to a Black woman whose husband is white bout the husband’s friends using the word “nigger,” (Okay, so I used the “N-word”) suggested that the woman might be too sensitvity and should let it go. In explaining her reasoning, Dr. Schlessinger said “nigger, nigger” but not in a derogatory way.

We who are sensitive to the “N-word” must also consider the context. Dr. Schlessinger was right when she said Black comedians use it and we Blacks, especially men, use it among ourselves. Her point was, I think, that the word has lost its sting through use.

What she missed is while we may use it among ourselves, coming out of the mouth of a White person, or any non-black person, the word has a different connotation, a negative meaning.

The point I want to make to her is the word still stings because those White folks who use it mean me and mine no good. They want scare us like the Klan did in the old days.

My advice to the Black wife: smack one of them friends upside the head with a rolling pin. Let ’em know that this is the 21st century and you dont allow use of bad language in your house.

ALVIN S. SIMPLETON SAYS WE ARE IN DANGER OF BECOMING LIKE AUTOCRACY

Here in Tennessee, last year a US Representative advocated denying citizenship to children born in the United States of illegal immigrant parents in violation of the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution.

Well, folks, this year he aint alone. Several US Senators have jumped on the blame illegal immigrants for every thing wrong train. These politicians want to repeal or rewrite the 14th Amendment to deny children born in the US whose parents are illegal immigrants. Changing a nation’s constitution on a whim is what authoritarian nations do.

Open up the US Constitution to change it, and every group with a cause will want to get in on the process. Can you hear the antiabortion calling for an amendment to outlaw abortion. The antigay folks aint for behind with their amendment to define marriage as between one man and one woman. The environmentalist will also jump on the constitution train, as will birthers who will insist on an amendment forcing presidential candidates to submit their birth certificates for public scrutiny. And lets not forget those will want to outlaw the Islamic religion. And those who want it in the constitution that the United States is a Christian nation.

No, man, I say dont mess with the US Constitution.
